Our journey

The route changed us more than the destination.

We share the countries, states, vehicles and chapters that shaped our family. We never publish a precise live location.

How we got here

What began as a year of travel led us to a whole new way of life.

  1. 2018

We left the UK in Ivor

Ivor was our self-converted, off-grid Iveco Daily and the perfect first home on wheels for the three of us. Lawrie was not even two when we set off for a year of travel.

  2. 2019

    Portugal became home

After four months of searching, we bought our quinta in rural central Portugal and began welcoming travellers onto the land.

  3. 2024

    Our Scandinavian adventure in BATC

BATC, pronounced bat-see, is our Ford Transit Mk7 motorhome. In 2024 he took us from Portugal to Scandinavia and back for a summer of family life on the road.

  4. Late Oct 2025 to mid Mar 2026

    Five months in Sri Lanka

Lawrie joined Elements Worldschoolers, a holistic, multi-age learning community for children aged 7 to 14. Its days combine hands-on projects, expressive arts, movement, emotional wellbeing and meaningful connections with an international group of children. Wilfy spent time at Free Spirits Ceylon Kids, a nature-based learning and community space for younger children where play, relationships and everyday experiences guide learning, with an emphasis on emotional safety, flexibility and allowing each child to develop at their own pace. Both projects gave the boys time to make friends, experience different ways of learning and discover everyday life in a culture very different from home.

  5. Mar to Sep 2026

North America in Harvey the RV

Harvey the RV is our 2000 Fleetwood Tioga 29Z. He carried us through 24 US states, two Canadian provinces and roughly 10,000 miles.

A person who became part of the story

Baba made us feel welcome.

Baba became a special part of our time in Sri Lanka. We returned to his little beach shack often, and he was incredibly kind to our whole family and to the other Elements Worldschoolers.

It is the people who turn a place into a chapter we remember.

Meet Harvey the RV

An old American motorhome with a very big job.

Harvey the RV is different from BATC, the motorhome we used for Scandinavia and keep in Portugal. We bought Harvey in the USA and his 6.8L V10 engine carried our full-time home through our six-month USA and Canada chapter.
